In an effort to improve its domestic and regional services, Air Ethiopian Airlines has decided to acquire two DHC-6 Twin Otter 300-G aircraft from Canadian manufacturer De Havilland Aircraft of Canada.
Carrying 20 seats, the new aircraft are expected to help the Ethiopian airline improve its domestic service. They will be deployed on routes such as those connecting Addis Ababa to Dessie, Gambella, Jimma, Bahir Dar, and Arba Minch, and also operated on regional routes such as the Addis Ababa-Djibouti route.
Prior to the arrival of these two aircraft, Ethiopian Airlines did not operate any DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft, and neither the airline nor the manufacturer have disclosed the exact amount of the transaction regarding the cost of the new delivery. In this regard, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, CEO of the Ethiopian Airlines Group, said, “I am delighted to mark an important milestone in the development of our airline with this new order, which forms the backbone of a younger domestic and regional fleet.
“These aircraft are perfectly suited for charter flights, particularly as they are designed for short takeoffs and landings,” He added.
