At the recent Post-COVID International Conference held in Toronto, Ethiopian Airlines was recognized with the Global Recognition and Appreciation Award, an honor highlighting its remarkable contribution during the COVID-19 crisis. This award recognizes not only the company’s ability to adapt, but also its deep commitment to essential humanitarian and logistics initiatives.
In a context of border closures and massive travel disruptions, Ethiopian Airlines has brilliantly converted 25 of its cargo planes to meet a crucial need: repatriation. These aircraft, usually intended for the transport of goods, were refitted to allow the return of Ethiopian residents and foreigners to their homes, carrying out a total of 470 repatriation flights.
But Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment did not stop there. The company has also been a key conduit in the global distribution of medical aid, moving several million tons of medicines and protective equipment, including vaccines and other essential medical devices. This crucial role in transporting vital supplies has been essential in supporting international efforts to combat the virus.
