Ethiopian Airlines continues to make history in African aviation. At the 2026 World Airline Awards ceremony, organized by Skytrax in London on September 18, Ethiopia’s national carrier was named “Best Airline in Africa” for the ninth consecutive time.
Since 2018, no other African airline has managed to unseat the Ethiopian carrier from this highly coveted position. Nine consecutive years marks an all-time record in the history of the continental rankings established by Skytrax.
Beyond the main title, the Addis Ababa-based airline also secured two additional awards:
– Best Business Class in Africa
– Best Economy Class Catering in Africa.
These awards are based on an extensive international satisfaction survey involving travelers from over 100 countries and covering more than 300 airlines worldwide.
Several other accolades for Ethiopian Airlines in 2026:
This year has been particularly rich in honors for Ethiopian Airlines. In addition to the hat-trick achieved at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, the Oneworld alliance carrier garnered several other international awards: the “Best Airline in Africa” title from the APEX Passenger Choice Awards joins three awards from the PAX Readership Awards for:
– Best In-Flight Catering in Africa
– Best Overall Passenger Experience
– Best Children’s Amenity Kit.
