The opening of a new airport in Ethiopia has been confirmed. Located in the city of Kombolcha in the north-central part of the West African country, and bearing its name, the new airport will have two terminals, including a passenger terminal and another for VIP passengers.
The new airport will be accessible from Highway B5, then Highway B51.
Ethiopian Airlines will operate several flights to and from Wollo Kombolcha. The national carrier will begin opening routes gradually from its new hub and will transfer existing domestic routes, such as the one connecting Kombolcha to Bahir Dar, which will become a direct flight without going through Addis Ababa.
On this occasion, Mesfin Tasew, CEO of the Ethiopian Airlines Group, declared: “The construction of the new airport cost 12 million euros for a total area of 3,500 m². ”The runway itself and the facilities meet the most rigorous safety standards required by organizations such as ICAO,” the press release emphasizes.
