Ethiopian Airlines announces an order for 9 Boeing

Ethiopian Airlines will add nine new wide-body aircraft to its fleet.

The information was revealed by Boeing. The American aircraft manufacturer announced that the Star Alliance member airline has placed an order for nine 787-9 aircraft, bringing the total number of this model in its fleet to 19.

This new order comes in addition to another contract signed with Boeing at the Dubai Airshow for the delivery of 11 737 MAX aircraft.

Last year, the Ethiopian national carrier put one Boeing 737 MAX 8 and one Airbus A350-1000 into service. Once the new Boeing aircraft are delivered, the Star Alliance member will have 177 aircraft in its fleet.

This transaction will allow Ethiopian Airlines to strengthen its growth strategy.

Rapidly expanding Destination network

At the start of this year, Ethiopian Airlines announced the launch of two new international routes from Addis Ababa Bole, to Lyon in France and Jizan in Saudi Arabia, bringing the number of destinations served by its long-haul network to 55.
