Ethiopian Airlines has finalized a firm order for six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
The new order is part of the agreement signed between the African airline giant and the American aircraft manufacturer in 2023 for the delivery of 67 aircraft.
“The conversion of the options for six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners into a firm order is another significant milestone illustrating the continued success of our airline,” said Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.
The new wide-body aircraft, which are expected to land at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport within the next few months, will complement its existing long-haul fleet, primarily composed of 787-8s and 787-9s, and contribute to the ongoing expansion of its network, which now includes major destinations and capital cities in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America.
A strategic order for Vision 2035
This new order is undoubtedly a key step towards achieving the objectives outlined in Ethiopian Airlines’ “Vision 2035”, which aims to become one of the world’s best and largest airlines by continuing to invest in state-of-the-art aircraft. This will allow the airline to expand its services to major global cities and maintain its operational excellence to ensure optimal passenger comfort.
