Ethiopia is finalizing construction of a new airport in Bishoftu, just 39km from Addis Ababa, which is scheduled to open in 2030.
According to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed: “This airport is one of the megaprojects representing the future of our country’s air transport.”
Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, described the completion of Bishoftu International Airport as a major asset to Ethiopia’s aviation infrastructure. The new airport aims to relieve pressure on Addis Ababa International Airport, which currently handles the majority of the country’s air traffic.
“The launch of Bishoftu Airport will allow Ethiopian Airlines to further expand its capacity and continue to offer world-class services, providing our passengers with more flight options.”
“This mega project, much of which will be financed by Ethiopian Airlines, will feature a terminal housing the latest technologies, making it one of the most advanced airports on the African continent.” he stressed.
